MediaBin and InDesign
leala_abbott
Running: MB 4.5.3
InDesign CS4
I've read about the InDesign plug-in, but can't seem to find any information about the specifics of how it works and what functionality it provides in InDesign. Can you link to master assets in Media through InDesign? Does MediaBin allow direct access or are users only able to access the files via the web browser? Is there some resources that I can read regarding this? Systems I have worked on in the past allow for the end user to place images into layouts and maintain the relationship with the original master image in real-time. Is this possible with MediaBin?

We are using MB 4.6.2 and InDesign CS3. We were able to get the plugin to "work", although there were a few issues and Autonomy had given us an updated version of the plugin - not sure if it's the same one that you can currently download. The plugin install is just for the client side - I don't remember there being a server side install. When all was said and done, a user with the MB InDesign client installed was able to search through MB assets within the InDesign application, drag an asset over to the main document, save it to the appropriate location, and the reference to the MB image was saved. I didn't try linking to master assets. But the major problem we ran into happened when trying to search for jpg's within InDesign - we have so many that the plugin more or less timed out when trying to search. JPGs would display if you searched for them by specific file name, but not by asset type.

The InDesign plug-in is maintained as a separate product line item even thought he back end server support ships standard. See your account representative for details.
