i want to know from which directory path user is doing new form entry. i want to get the directory path.

If you are trying to get this info in your DCT, something like IWDatacapture.getDCRPath () would work. Refer FormAPI Reference guide--> IWDatacapture objects.

If you are trying to get this info in your DCT, something like IWDatacapture.getDCRPath () would work. Refer FormAPI Reference guide--> IWDatacapture objects.

IWDatacapture.getDCTPath() avoids the issue of having to wait for the DCR to be saved in order to get the content type information - however that doesn't answer the question of where the user happened to be within the workarea when they performed a File > New Form Entry - they could have been at the root of the workarea, or anywhere within there.

We're still jumping to conclusions about (a) the details of the implementation (as I previously asked about and (b) the rationale for needing this information.

We can spew out all sorts of suggestions - but they won't necessarily mean anything without better context for the issue that they're trying to resolve.

i want to capture it from formapi or cgi call out.

get DCTpath() or DCRpath() will not work, user will do new form entry from the directory other than templatedata. i want to capture that direcory.
as it is new form entry there will be no dcr present to use DCRpath()

can some one help me out.

Did you read my post? What I posted will work for you. There is no FormAPI function that will get you the vpath of an unsaved DCR. FormAPI is just a javascript API. If you're afraid of javascript, then you might want to find someone else to code for you.

There is one way which I could think is get the value of "current_vpath" parameter from the entity database under /iw-home/local/entities/Data. You have to do this onFormLoad of the dcr. First you need to take the latest file and match the user id in it, if it matches then pick the vpath from the file. If it doesn't match then pick the next latest file.

However, it is not very easy and recommended way of doing and I do not know your purpose behind doing this.

That won't work. Entries under ...entities/Data change upon log-in, user's GUI navigation after that is not reflected.

Taalgaard proposed the workable solution for this thread, take a look. That said, the very idea of making DCR population
somehow dependent on the user current location is a pathetically poor design. I wonder what should happen in this schema
if later on the DCR is modified/regenerated from some different location or (haven forbid!) by some script/workflow

That won't work. Entries under ...entities/Data change upon log-in, user's GUI navigation after that is not reflected.

The user's navigation as well as the login information is reflected in the entity database in TS6.7.1 SP1 onwards. I am not sure about TS6.7.1 which is case now.

Could be, none of that has been ever documented or supported.

We do not know if Swathi's TS Version reflects 'current_vpath' in the Entities DB. Even if it does, your schema requires JS + callServer
or Ajax + Server Side Perl or Java process to parse unknown number of Data Entities etc. Taalgaard already illustrated local JS-only solution.

I agree with you Bo, that's why I mentioned it is not a recommended way of doing and may not be worth it.
