TeamSite 7.x and database

Hi,

Is it possible to install and run TeamSite 7.x without a database? (Solaris 10 on Sparc)

According to the document, it looks like you need to have a database to use the Common Services. Is there any document that explains more about this Common Services?

Do not know if there is a doc, but the DB is not optional. You must have it.

7.2 supports MySQL, 7.1 did not officially but IIRC, included the connect strings in examples.

Yes, I tried installing TS 7.1 on a Linux box with the mySQL database since it was the one in the example. Except it never installed correctly until I switch over to Oracle.

So if the database is down, you won't be able to use TS?

That does not seem to be the case. I have run TS without the DB, but install is required. I am not certain what additional functionality may be lost.

Besides the obvious complaining you'll see polluting your logs, this is what I'd expect would go wrong (there might be more):
* Event subsystem won't publish to the DB, so your reporting and TS Search may not work properly
* ReportCenter won't work, and you may be missing a bunch of reporting events from when the DB wasn't up
* Can't use OOTB SitePub database functionality

You need a DB anyway if you're going to be using LSCS, since that can't run without one. LSDS can do without.

'Far as I've seen, the Common Services schema is used to track your products and versions. It's only used by the various installers and patching programs and doesn't *need* to run outside of those processes.
