MediaBin Licensing
Ian_x_harris
Hi,
I'm trying to generate a licence for MediaBin 7.2 and the form is causing me some consternation.
The three fields are:
DiSH IP/MAC Address: Fine I've got the MAC address of the MB server
DiSH Port: From what I can see in the docs this is probably referring to the IDOL service DiSH port running from the OEM IDOL install done as part of the MB install. Is this the case? If so what is the default port for the DiSH running on the MB server? I've read in the "full" IDOL manual that the Port is 20000/20002. Can I just use either?
DiSH Version: No idea what this would be as there's nothing in the docs that I can see.
It seems odd to need details of a secondary service for licensing of the main service before installation :-)
I will raise a support case if necessary but at the moment I'm finding devnet better than support at actually answering questions.
Any help gratefully received.
Ian

DiSH licensing is not required for VMB till 7.2.1. VMB 7.2.2 onwards require the DiSH. VideoLogger,SoftSound and Transcoder licensing will be provided from this DiSH on VMB 7.2.2
The MAC/IP address are from the machine where DiSH will be installed. You can have DiSH and VMB server on the same machine...
DiSH port is 20000.

What if I'm not interested in videologger. There is no documentation around what needs to be done and it's not a per-requisite on the documentation. What a shame to have worked in Interwoven/Autonomy products for the last 8 years. Totally frustrated.

VideoLogger is required only when you would like to have the multimedia files to be ingested with AssetType as Multimedia.
If VideoLogger is not installed and try to ingest the videos, the job fails; if dummy VideoLogger host name is added to MBSettings, the video will be ingested as Non-Image format.

Ian, did you ever get an answer as to what one is supposed to put in this spot? I have generated a IDOL license for MediaBin 8.0.3 and I am getting messages saying that my product is not fully licensed. I have about half of my IDOL services/features running. I'm thinking that I either a) messed up the Version info or b) I somehow was given a MediaBin license without the ability to install because I need a secondary license to perform the install.
It has been a painful install process and I'm looking for a bit of help.

MediaBin 8.x requires two licenses. One is MediaBin Server license (.reg file) which is a Windows registry file. Another is IDOL DiSH/LicenseServer license (.dat file) which provides the license to IDOL, Transcoder, VideoLogger and SoftSound.
The functionality of VideoLogger and SoftSound will be enabled in DiSH/LicenseServer (.dat file) only when the customer is entitled for it.
The DiSH license (.dat) file should be placed under DiSH/LicenseServer folder and point the IDOL server to DiSH IP by editing [LicenseServer] section in IDOL Server's cfg file.
The license request on Support site is only for DiSH/LicenseServer. When placing the license ley request online, you need to provide either Mac ID or IP address of machine where you will be installed DiSH/LicenseServer. The port will be 20000 by default. You can mention a new port number if you would like to use a different port.
To get the MediaBin Server license (.reg), mention a note in the above license request's Additonal Notes field that you also need MediaBin Server license (.reg) file.
If the provided DiSH/LicenseServer does not work, you need to confirm that the license is generated with the correct details and matching with server.
LicenseServer.log will give the right details why the license is not working.
