Set Owner while creating DCR

Hi Everyone,
I have a requirement of setting the owner of a DCR while creating it. Also i want to set the attribute Modified by: at the time of form(DCR) creation.
For example:-
If user ABC is creating the form i want to make XYZ the owner of the file and set Modified by Smiley Very Happy

EF(some other user)
Is it possible. I have referred the FormAPI as well the Developer guide, but couldn't find much. Any help would be appreciated.

Well i was able to set the owner using the iwaccess clt command.. but i still cannot figure out how to fix the "Modified by:" attribute..

I believe that Modified by is set at the file system level and not something you can programmatically override - it should be the name of the user who last actually modified the DCR (either its contents, its metadata, or its file system attributes).

Your "requirement" seems highly suspect - what is the rationale behind it (if there is any)

Well the root cause of this requirement goes back to ccstd "Work in Progress" Portlet. I had a requirement to display only the generated files(xmls) and not the DCRs. So i came out with this workaround.
--> The user ABC will only see the files with Atribute Modified by: ABC in "Work in Progress" portlet.
--> So if i change this attribute for the DCR, the user ABC would not be able to see the DCR in "Work in Progress" portlet.
--> Then i will through clt unlock that DCR so that if the user tries to edit the outputfile, teamsite doesnt give him an error like "file is locked by someother user" and he would be able to modify it easily.

I just couldnt find a way to restrict the type of files in my "WIP" portlet.

You could use formapi onsavevalid event that does a callserver to a perl script that will make a call to chown command to change the owner of the dcr. This is what we've done since we implemented TS in our environment and it works to prevent DCRs from being displayed in WIP.

Correct me if i am wrong but its not the owner but Modified By: attribute which determines which files will be displayed in WIP. So m not sure how u've done it by changing the owner of the DCRs.

we call a perl file OnSaveDone like this:


  url = "http://"+server+"/iw-bin/chDCRowner.ipl";
 IWDatacapture.callServer(url, params, true);

then the chDCRowner.ipl file calls the chown system program (you can get a copy called chown.exe for windows which is what we run on or just use the chown command in unix/linux)


$chowner = "chown system $iwmount$dcrpath";
$out_chown = `$chowner`;

This process changes the modified by on the dcr to be system. Like I said it's worked for us since the beginning (originally implemented by consultants). Personally, I would prefer if AI would allow for some better configuration of the WIP since we run in a 1 to 1 scenario where we only allow one generated piece of content per dcr. We find it's very confusing to the "business" user to show both the dcr and the generated xml file in the WIP (this is also why we removed the Add to Favorites step from workflow in CCStd). Another approach you potentially take is on a save maybe have it submit the dcr to staging which would take it out of it's modified state.

Thanks so much for your help jason.. I really appreciate it but i cannot find this "chown.exe" in my teamsite server.. So i donno how to access it.. I mean what should be next step..

Before you use chown you might want to look at Icacls.exe. It's provided by Microsoft for Windows 2003.

Well many thanks jason.. it actually worked!! but unfortunately my client doesnt want me to work with outside files. but anyways thanks a lot for your help.

I tried using icacls.exe to set owner of a file but while doing it i get an error saying "access is denied".. if i could get this command working then it would really help me a lot.

Did you use /C in the command. It will do a "Continue on access denied errors".

You can type icacls.exe /? to get further info on the different options.

Ya i tried /c , but it didnt work.. any other leads?

Actually i found out the solution.. the error that i was facing is a bug with windows 2003 sp2 server and a hotfix was available on the website.. i installed it and now it works fine... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947870
