DB schema sizing and maintenance for 7.1 installation

Hi DevNetters -
We're building out a new test 7.1 TeamSite installation on a Solaris LDOM. After looking through the various installation-related materials, we're at the point that, just about first thing, we need to install a few (Oracle 10i) database schemas. Here are a few questions about that process:

1) Are there any size estimates available on how large iwcommon, iwevents and iwsitepub dbs will grow, given a medium amount of development activity?

2) Is there a way to test the o/jdbc connectivity from the dev server to the new dbs before executing the install process and just 'seeing if it works?'

3) Are db 'pruning' processes provided - assuming that the dbs will continue to grow? For the one existing db we use with our 6.7.1 prod install (OpenDeploy Reporting), we needed to look into the db itself (no ERD or table info was provided), figure out the relationships between the table and then build our own SQL statements to periodically run and clean out old rows of content. If that's what we have to do with these new dbs, we have to allocate some time for this work.

If you have any input / experiences on these above points, any help is appreciated.

Here's an update for you all: I've got a Support ticket open for this. AFAICT, there's no available info. While they're trying to pull together some doco, we're doing an 'agile' try and modify install loop until we succeed.

We guessed at 1 gig sizing for the db.

Only the use of DAS will make a significant change of size of the db.An estimate however I can't give.

Yes there is. If the oracle client configure properly you should be able to connect with sqlplus.

I suppose you are indeed using DAS for deploying data in database. We stopped doing this,because that was a heavy load on the application servers. Now we use 'User Defined Schemas' (own custom tables).This speeded up the applications & deployments significantly ,and also removed a lot of data from the db.Cleaning up the db afterwards when removing branches etc. is a lot easier too.

An update:

I think I stumped Support on this issue (asking for sizing, maintenance and descriptive info on the db portion of the 7.1 install.)

While it all seems to be working, I'm still doubting that the db portion of a 7.1 TeamSite installation is so self-maintaining that we'll never need to prune any content or perform any maintenance.

Are you also asking about minimum Oracle user privileges as part of your ticket? So far, the installer fails for me unless the user is granted the DBA role. I'm sure you can picture how our infrastructure guys feel about that. Haven't been able to figure out which priv is missing, and hibernate's forums are proving useless so far...

I don't remember running into that issue. I -think- we asked for the db area to be established (Oracle 10i) and got an owner assigned to it, then we put the owner info into the connection string and the install worked. I just counted about 80 tables installed.
