How to get container id?

KunalRana

Hi,

Our requrirement is to copy images into MediaBin having the same folder structure. Now for inserting assets I need containerId of the folder. Suppose my path is root/abc/xyz/myImage.jpg , now how can I get the container id of xyz folder(container)? Please help. Thanks.

What mechanism are you using to ingest the assets?

I can only hope you're doing something with web services, in which case you may want to look at getContainerByPath

Hi Rick,

I am using insertAsset method. I have seen getContainerByPath method but it will return only the container object, the problem I am facing is how to get container id from that object.

Thanks,
Kunal

I'm not seeing the issue... Once you have the container, can you not call container.getMBID() ?

Thanks Rick.

I have tried getMID method but getting error as:
MBException: Unprintable or illegal character found in identifier. Illegal characters are / \ : * ? " < > | (0x80040446)

How can I give the path(for eg: web/gallery/abc/xyz.jpg) then?

You get that error when calling getMBID() ?? That doesn't seem to make much sense, since the GUID character set (curly braces, hyphens, numbers) aren't part of that restricted character set error.

I'd suggest trying those calls first using the test page (Remote Desktop to the MB server and use the http://localhost/MediaBinWebService page) and see where you get with that. If I had to guess, I'd think your folder name somehow contains weird characters that aren't allowed, but I have no idea how you'd even get into that situation in the first place.

I suggest that you post your code. Can you confirm if you are using webservices API or COM API?
