iwmetadata.cgi in a workflow
Johnny
Hi Guys,
Im know I probably could just try this out myself, however our metadata hasnt been configured yet and I have a simple question that im sure someone has been through.
If i tack on a cgi task for iwmetatadata.cgi after a user contributor task, can iwmetadata.cgi handle multiple files attached to the workflow (being able to individually set seperate metatadata for each) and how does metadata assignment work?
If a dcr is submitted the corresponding html page is attached. what does iwmetadata.cgi work on?... both?.. or just the html page... or just the dcr?... which is more appropriate to house the metadata? what is the best practice in getting this all down pat.
The admin manual seems to describe that it can be all done, I would just like to hear peoples experiences and use of the tool.
Your help would be much appreciated
I have also posted this under content intelligence

I am assuming you are talking about the TeamSite metadata and *not* MetaTagger.
Yes, I used iwmetadata.cgi in workflow and it provides me automatically an input form based on number of file selections. If I select one file and kick off the workflow, it let's me set the metadata on that file and if I seelct group of files, then it provides me default with a global metadata input form and a button to switch to file view. Once user clicks on that button, it provides independent input boxes for all fiels selected.
About the DCR and HTML question am not sure as I have not tried that but I think it would default set on the html that you select for metadata. Also, in my opinion, it is better to set metadata on the final html for three reasons:
1. User will always edit the dcr automatically even on editing the generated HTML.
2. It will search for the html only if using metadata for search purpose. That way search engine will not get confused.
3. You might possibly be using a same DCR to generate multiple HTML outputs by rendering through different TPLs.
And if you use MetaTagger, MetaTagger (mtmetaproxy.cgi) will also intelligently detect if the call if for one file or multiple and based on the call, it will provide the UI.
Hope this helps!

Hi Akshat
Thanks for the response. Yes I was talking about TeamSite metadata (sorry for not stating that).
This was exactly what I was after!
Your help was appreciated!
