Set the configurable variable of a task in java file of urlexternal task

Hi,
I have a urlexternal task . The className of this task is 'com.interwoven.training.UrlExternalTaskTest'. My url task has a task variable of type configurable. Its name is 'fname'.
In UrlExternalTaskTest class i want to get my task variable 'fname' and set it to a value 'Sample.txt'.
I don't know how to get my variable in my java class.
Please help me ..

If you implemented your task properly, you have an execute() method and one of its parameters is the current CSTask object. From there, it should be fairly easy for you to check the CSSDK documentation (stored in iw-home/cssdk/docs/cssdk_doc.jar) and figure out what to do with it.

What does task.getVariable('fname') return? Null? Empty string?

Verify that your task *actually* has the variable set. You can verify this by checking the task's properties in its Actions menu in CCPro. I'm thinking the issue may be with how you're setting the variable rather than how you're reading it.

Defining a configurable variable in and of itself does not make it available at the task level - you need to assign the configurable variable to either a job or task variable within the model - then you should be able to access it from the job or task object.

If you enable debug mode for the workflow - you should be able to review the job specification XML - and verify that the job or task actually has the variable associated with it. If not, that would explain why you cannot access it from the task object and you have to figure out why it's not getting associated correctly with the job or task specification.

I find your statements above confusing, so I'll just pose a process / strategy - and perhaps it will help.

In your WFM - you define a CV ("MYVAR") and you assign the value of that CV to a task level variable ("my_var") for your URL ExternalTask (a non-interactive task - you knew that, right?). The URL ExternalTask specifies the standard command string and you specify your custom class in the ClassName task variable - with me so far?

Your custom class gets invoked by the standard URL ExternalTask class - calling the execute() method. One of the parameters of that method is a CSTask object - which should be the representation of the URL ExternalTask task itself.

From that task object - (within the execute method of your custom class - specified as the ClassName attribute of the task specification) - you should be able to do something like:

...
public void execute(CSClient myClient, CSExternalTask myTask, java.util.Hashtable myParams) throws CSException {
    ...
    String myVal = myTask.getVariable("my_var");
    System.out.println("myVal = '" + myVal + "'"); // #=# debugging / verification
    ...
}

You don't need to pass any special parameters on the URL, you just need to make sure that the task level variable is defined correctly for the task in question and that it has the value you want (the CV value) - and then you access that information through the CSTask [CSExternalTask] object.

Actually i need to pass the full path of files attched to the workflow into a urlexternal task's url command. Since i am not getting the fullpath in urlcommand of the urlexternal task , i tried in a different way. I tried to get the file's fullpath in an urlexternal task and set a variable of next urltask . Since i cannot pass the task variable directly in url command of urlexternal task i am trying to set the cv variable of workflow or next task here
Please help me

What do you get? A full path.Was that really that difficult for you to figure out?

I agree.. But shall we pass the fullpath as below in uelcommand:
http://.........url...?fpath='fullpath' . inplace of 'fullpath' i need the value of fullpath

Why bother explicitly passing the full path to the program that can derive it from the information that is already available to the program implicitly?
