Suppress Params in Livesite

Hi,

I am looking for workaround to suppress the parameters added to page URL when submitting a component.

Through my component I render a HTML form. I have to submit parameters to the same page.When I submit the form, these parameters "submit=true&componentID=1305512069307" automatically get added to the URL. I dont want these to be added to URL because if the user does a Back or Forward in browser, the page doesn't load. Please can you suggest any fix to suppress these parameters.

Example :If on initial page load the URL is : https:///test/default.page

After the form submit, URL in address bar becomes :
https:///test/default.page?submit=true&componentID=1305512069307.

I understand that this addition of params is automatic in Livesite, this call is "GET" type, can this be set to a "POST" call so that these params dont show in URL?

Have you tried the obvious method="POST" on your <form> tag? I don't know if LiveSite will respond to that, but it's the first thing I'd try. Otherwise, you can use type="external" to suppress LiveSite logic on your form, and instead have it behave like normal HTML forms.

Hi Rick,

Yes I have used POST method in my HTML form and the parameters in my form are not added to the URL. The form is hidden and reason for submit of form on click of a link is to change the value of one of the parameter in the Request Context or you can say to overwrite one of the Parameters in External of my component.

These parameters "submit=true&componentID=1305512069307" are added by Livesite runtime itself when resubmitting a component. Is there a way I can suppress these from getting added to URL ?

Hi Rick,

Where should I use [ type="external" ] ? Other than 'name' , 'action' & 'method' , I am not aware of any other attributes of form element.

It's not part of the HTML spec -- it's an attribute that's expressly used by LiveSite. The attribute will get removed when LiveSite renders the page, but it will prevent the behaviour you're seeing now. (And yes, it goes on the form element)

Hi,

Actually got very close to fixing the problem but discovered a new javascript limitation.

javascript code to submit a form is : document.forms["myForm"].submit();

This works fine but fails if you have a input element having name as "submit" . I mean if you have <input type="hidden" name="submit" value="true"/> in your form, the above code fails and form cannot be submitted.
