iwproxy_preconnect_remap

I am confused with the use of iwproxy_preconnect_remap. Is it used to remap content from source to destination ? I mean in the following sample, will the content in path /iwmount/default/main/Microsites/WORKAREA/en_US/content/generic/faq_generate_test.jsp will be appearing in http://localhost:8082/content/generic/faq_generate_test.jsp

Is iwproxy_preconnect_remap used to get content from destination in source e.g. I have all the imagess stored in image branch and whenever I want to populate a field with an image which is in different branch, I can browse to this branch which is configured in iwproxy_preconnect_remap. I mean can I do cross branch browsing using iwproxy_preconnect_remap ?

It's analogous to Apache's mod_proxy. When a request comes in matching a rule, the request URL is modified and the server forwards the new request (possibly to itself) on behalf of the original request. From the users' perspective, the URL doesn't ever change but they can be retrieving content from another, completely different server.

You sample rule, though not in the proper syntax, would have
http://teamsiteserver/iwmount/default/main/Microsites/WORKAREA/en_US/content/generic/faq_generate_test.jsp
render the same as though the user were accessing
http://teamsiteserver:8082/content/generic/faq_generate_test.jsp
without the user ever knowing (or seeing) port 8082.

So it looks like you have the right idea there, forwarding requests to a servlet container that can render your JSPs in the workarea, but that's *all* it does. You can't use it as a sneaky workaround for the image picker, since that's not based on an iw-mount request -- it's based on a callback to the TSUI servlet which scans the workarea content with a CSSDK-like API.

Is it required that faq_generate_test.jsp page is present in the path http://localhost:8082/content/generic/faq_generate_test.jsp otherwise how will this jsp page will be available to the request when its remapped to different location ?

You would want http://localhost:8082/content/generic/faq_generate_test.jsp to render something useful, yes. Whether the file is there, or your servlet container has an app that interprets this request as "let's fetch and render Google's home page" is up to you.
