Tracking tab question
jrMugz
When an administrator clicks on an asset, they see the Tracking tab on the far right. Is there a way, by creating an AD user group called say "Tracking_Users", to allow other users besides Admins to see that tab? The specific version we want to do this in, is 4.6.
Thank you,
Jim

Afraid not. We are not set up to filter the results of tracking inquiries based on permissions and therefore we only allow tracking queries from Admins.

OK, thanks for the information, Lyman.

Would it be possible to add custom coding to the web client to allow certain users besides Admins to see it on the web client?

Afraid that this decision is enforced on the server...

OK thanks, Lyman. I figured that from your first response; but just wanted to confirm.
We are running a script that is getting the tracking information for all downloaded assets in a certain directory, such as "C:\temp".
The problem is, it is only getting the information for that one download, whereas we want it to extract all of the download information.
We've been playing with things we've been finding in the API; but so far no luck being able to search through all of the tracking for an item. If you have a piece of code handy that does, this that would be great. Right now we're basically using the SDK sample script and trying to convert it into something that will display more than just the one record for the download.

If your goal is reporting you may want to look into the SQL report views we produced for this purpose. See my talk in DevNet:

OK, thank you for your feedback Lyman. I see I can use the assets download view, for tracking the downloads of a particular folder.
Can you tell me this, does the Tracking tab we view on an asset base its data on what it finds in the JobHistoryLog/AuditLog tables?
Or can it find data that's older than can be found in the JobHistoryLog/AuditLog tables?

The tracking tab uses its own database table (dids). Often this gets cleaned out on update but in other circumstances its lifetime is unrelated to the cleanup schedule for the other logs.
