Differences between Copy and Copy To

I've looked through the CC Pro User's Guide for TS 6.7... But I'm wondering what the typical functionality of this is. Could a few people could tell me: What happens when you copy a file using "Copy", and "Copy to"?

We typically have just one workarea in each branch or subbranch, but there is one intances where we have multiple workareas within a subbranch. Within one of these workareas, if I select a DCT, and select "Copy to", I am not able to navigate to any of the other workareas in the subbranch.

However, the CC Pro User's Guide on p.84 says:

You can copy content from workareas, staging areas, and editions to any workarea that
you have permission to modify. When you copy content from one area to another, the
file system structure is duplicated.
To copy content from one area into a workarea that you can modify:
1. Navigate to the location of the items you want to copy.
2. Place a check in the check box next to the items you want.
3. Select Edit > Copy to.
The Copy from area_name to screen displays in the view pane.
4. Select a destination in the Select Workarea field. Only workareas that you can
modify are listed.

Is anyone able to copy to another workarea using "Copy to"? I AM able to select other workareas using "Copy", and I think I understand where to go to change the label of this link (ui_custom.xml), but I'd prefer not to change it if the label is indeed accurate. We currently have named "Copy to" as "Copy to Another Workarea".

I use copy to all the time. Yes copy to another workarea is probably a more accurate name.

One other point, copying to a workarea under the same branch is a bad idea. You will have issues on submits. Submit and get latest instead. Copy to is used most often to start a structure on another branch.

The scope of level of "Copy" is within Workarea, The scope of level of "Copy To" is across the branches (and you were looking at workarea level- which is customizable - That's not a good option though).

Looking at your thread i understood that you are requirement is to have some consistency (limited to files) across workarea's below are the two options.

1) Either do a get latest from destination WA (This gets the file from Staging if the file is Submitted in WA) or
2) Do a custom link of "Update workarea" which will copy the files from WA to WA. I think iwupdate CLT can be used for this.

My issue is that I'm not able to copy to other workareas using Copy To. So I was wondering if this worked "normally" for anyone.

I should clarify that our users do not each have their own workarea, so we don't have users getting latest.

Are you copying to the same branch or different ? IIRC, copy to does not work across different stores.

With "Copy to", I'm not able to go outside my current workarea. However, with "Copy", I can navigate up to the top level "main" branch.

Hello all,
I have the Copy To option missing from the menu on all our 3 servers. Please see attached a copy of my ui_custom.xml. It is missing for all users.

We are running TS7.1 on RedHat.

Has anyone ran into this before?

"Copy to" option is still present under "Edit" in 7.1 environment.

We appear to be missing the Copy To also. There are very few search results pertaining to TS 7. We seem to be missing it in Red Hat 7.2.1. Did you ever find out how to add this back? Documentation in the user guide for CC pro is still there for it.
