How can I detect the location of Component in page?

Hi,

I have one query, lets say I have one page where I have used 5 components, how can I find the location of those components (i.e. /iwadmin/livesite....)? Is there any CLT available which can provide the information of that particular page?

You can't really (this is intentionally not exposed), that's the idea behind components and layout management, they components do not need to know where they are positioned, so when you use different layouts the component doesn't have to worry about how it is positioned and only be responsible for the content rendered within.

I agree with you Alex, but I don't want to know about the positioning of components on page. I just want to know the base location of components lets say I have two Breadcrumb components available and the location of both components are mentioned below:

/iwadmin/main/livesite/component/WORKAREA/shared/testing1/breadcrumb.component
/iwadmin/main/livesite/component/WORKAREA/shared/testing2/breadcrumb.component

say while creating the page I have used /testing2/breadcrumb.component, but later, how will some other person will come to know which component is used on that page.

I guess the other person can open the .page in edit mode and can find the exact name and location of a particular component from the properties of that component .

Thanks for your reply Rajiv, but the component properties doesn't give any information about the location of component.

You are talking about the path of the base component, while that is available it is not accessable to the user since it is used internally for 'get latest' functionality and caching (among other things). It is part of the XML of the page but not exposed.

You may be able to add some information into the description of the component that people who edit the page can see, but I don't see any other way of knowing that internal information without altering livesite code.
