Expression Web 3 as non-template Editor

I am trying to use Expression Web 3 to edit non-templated files.
I can go to the file in TeamSite and click edit.

I close file the in Expression Web 3, but leave Expression Web 3 open.

If I go back to TeamSite and click on the file to re-edit it, a completely new session of Expression Web 3 opens.

Using other editors such as HTML-Kit or Dreamweaver does not open a completely new instance of the application.
Hoping that someone has experienced this issue and might be able to offer a solution. Thank you.
