Problem LSCS Query through browser

I am trying to query a DCR which RelaseDate is less than today and I am getting "Invalid date format" error.

http://localhost:8080/lscs/v1/document$*?q=(TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type:"General Content/Sample" AND TeamSite/Metadata/RelaseDate:
If i take out AND statement Query works and it gives me list of DCR that matches the first statement.

Please help.

Sorry, I didn't paste the whole query string.

Query String:
http://localhost:8080/lscs/v1/document$*?q=(TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type:"General Content/Sample" AND TeamSite/Metadata/RelaseDate:<Today)

For eg, If i query ReleaseDate: < "2010-10-22" then it works. This component is suppose to be dynamic so I cant hard code the date here or allow user to pick date using date Datum so I would want to use ReleaseDate:<Today which doesnt seem to work. Here ReleaseDate is extendend/custom attribute. However, Same query if i do CreationDate < Today it works. I am hoping i could use "Today" to represent todays date.

Another thought I had was to have an external, a simple class that returns the today's date in correct format. But I am not sure
how to pass that value to query string of another external. I can see the date i got back from my java class in
[HTML] /2010-10-22[/HTML] Now i want to some how extract that and append it in query string that will be passed to LscsQuery.

In LSCS sample : q=

They use #placeholder to substitue value from datum. Here is my component configuration (#TodayDate is throwing invalid query error)

My Hopeful try but not confident was to use $PAGE_SCOPE and hoped that will fill up TodayDate Datum and I could use #TodayDate to substitute in query string.

Yeah OOTB CreationDate works fine with criteria < Today but not extended attribute for eg CustomRelaseDate. Is there a way to configure LS such that OOTB and extended attribute behaves the say so that it understands the < Today ?

Have you tried moving your TodayDate into the Parameters Element?

Thanks you everyone for dropping suggestion.

I got what i need by creating an external which generates today's date and
sets it in context. Then I was able to use #TodayDate in string Query.

context.getParameters().put("TodayDate", today.getTextTrim());
