Is it possible to insert 2 components (Side by Side) in one Fixed area of the page using Fixed Layouts?

I am usig SitePublisher 7.1.

We do it via the css for the component. In the FAL we give id's to the columns, rows, and areas. Then in the css you can specifically set width and float properties for a div you id or class in the xslt.

May be i am not able to follow you properly.
Say the width of the Area is set to 500 px within a row and the width of component is set as 200 px in css, in that case how would another component take up pending 300 pixels in the same area?

If i trying doing that, the other component actually ends up going below the first component.

Also do you see all the components placed at the same location in *Edit* and *preview* mode using your approach?

Be sure to float them (one left the other right maybe) and you probably need to take up less then the whole 500px. There are margins and padding and other things that eat into it. Try 295 and 195 or something like that. It can be done. Also use Firebug and select the regions to see what the actual CSS attributes are, sometimes they get overwritten.

CSS is a black art.

ok got it.. i tried making these changes and was able to see side by side components using this approach but this happens only when i *preview* the page.
When the page is in *Edit* mode, components dont appear side by side rather they appear in different rows. So from users perspective, they dont see what they get Smiley Happy

Do you also face this problem or there is some workaround for that well?

Hit and miss on that one. Edit mode will not refresh with changes unless you close out and reopen it. Also, all the frames and other baggage that goes along with it causes us fits also. All I can say is that we have had it look correct in edit mode and preview but then it switches back to goofed in edit mode on and off. It might have something to do with what is submitted, committed, published, or what ever. It is a pain.

In my case, the edit mode doesnt show the same version even after closing and reopening the page.

I created 2 very basic components for left and right sections of the area. i defined the width of both components and the left float or right float. So preview works fine but not the Edit mode..

What else could be done here.. i know it is a pain Smiley Sad

and how does Ids for row, column and area play a role here. I assume once in a area these alignments are handled at the component CSS level.
