fetch duration of a task

I need to fetch duration of a task for this i am using the GetDuration(), the problem with this is if the task was activated and then deavtivated then again activated i get the negative duration. In the workflow document it is mentioned you'll get the duration as negative for this but my point is how to fetch the duration for such a task.

If I recall correctly, you have to parse through the event / comments to retrieve all start & end dates.
