Updating templating.cfg from TeamSIte GUI

I want to update templating.cfg from TreamSite GUI, so that I can version it everytime its updated and I dont have to take backup.
How can I configure to update is from GUI ?
How to configure directory or file to be included in TeamSite GUI, which is not created from within GUI ?
Can someone please give me idea about this ?

You can actually do via creating a new branch in teamsite for managing all the backend configuration files. This branch will be configured to deploy the changed files to your backend. You will have to be very careful for the deploy configuration so that it doesnt delete anything as it is with production teamsite server. I have done it in the past and it worked perfectly fine for me.

I know with latest versions you can update the files using Admin interface as well but i dont think it does the version management of the files.

Whatever content is created using TS GUI (DCRs) in branches, its getting stored in iw-store. By default TeamSite GUI points to the content in iw-store, when I check a particular DCR in a workarea.
Configuration files reside in iw-home. So how can I get TeamSIte GUI point to the directories or files (templatinmg.cfg in this case) in iw-home ?

Do I have to do it through virtualization in IIS server ? Its just an idea.I have never done it, but I have seen virtualization being done for some directories for a different environment than TeamSite.

You will have to firstly copy the required files and folders from iw-home folder to your Teamsite Branch Manually. So you are creating a copy of the content present in iw-home (you dont need the whole iw-home folder but only specific files & folders in Teamsite branch)

After that you can do the deployment configuration so that content from this branch always get deployed to the iw-home folder in the backend (this would actually be deployment from Base server to base server).

You need to be sure that you have OpenDeploy installed on the same server as your TeamSite. Some essential files you might consider putting in that new are iw.cfg, templating.cfg, available_templates.cfg, submit.cfg, autoprivate.cfg, etc....

If you are on TS verion 7.0+ (latest as of today is 7.2) then this is available OOTB. You can edit it through Admin UI and it is versioned automatically for you.

Where Exactly it is versioned? Can i retrieve the old version. I dont see that in TS 7.1. I am missing something?

The last part of your question is incredibly basic. A Base Server is both a sender and a receiver - you cannot explicitly install a [distinct] receiver on the same server where a Base Server is already installed (besides being redundant, the installer won't allow you to do so).

OD base acts as receiver as well, you dont need to have a receiver installed on it.

Answer to your first question you can create a separate branch called configuration and create a workarea which will have access to only admin team.
Create iw-home structure in it, and manually all the files which you want to version. Create a workflow which calls the deployment script to copy the file from store to iw-home paths with specific access and permissions. For every edit and deploy call the submit task which will submit version of your update.

You will need a master role to see this functionality.

Once your are a master and after you login to teamsite, you will be able to see administration link in the right top corner.
