FormAPI getItem issues on Tagging UI

Our customer has requested a default expiration date value to be inserted when new content is first tagged. The addFormHandler and IWDatacapture.getItem work perfectly for tagging individual content.

The problem happens when multiple files are tagged. All but the last file has the new date added.

I added alerts to follow the progress. In the js below there is the 'init' alert for each file. This tells me that we are dealing with individual forms on each piece.

The 'expireDate' alert shows empty for every item except the last one. On the last one it appears to be populated already with the default date, but when the script is completed the text field is empty.

Somehow the getItem call for the last item is getting a previous value.
