How to get Current Item name in FormAPI

Hi experts,

I am new to TeamSite and FormAPI, I am working on project which requires below functionality

In the DCT, there is a container, in that container there are 3 dropdown items. The first dropdown gets values from database using inline command. The second one should gets values from database based on the first dropdown value and third one also should get values from database based on 2nd dropdown box.

I know that we can achieve it using callserver method. I did the above functionality if all dropdowns are out of Container. I am getting problems when they are in container.........

How to solve this issue pls help me...............

Post your code. If you got it working outside of containers, then all you're missing is the correct addressing of your items within the container via their XPath.

Firstly, onItemChange Event Handler gets modified Item as a parameter, you do not have to search for it.

function ChangeLocation(item) {...
// item contains a reference to the changed IWItem Object
. . .
}

Secondly, what is the problem manifestation?

Not getting as in null? JS error? empty string?
The empty string would make sense if the selected item is "Select", since you've actually assigned a value of empty string to it. However, as Boris mentioned, you shouldn't even need to resolve the item again the second time, which would help your code be more manageable and less error-prone.

You do not have to pass anything. You do not have to change event registration either.
FormAPI automatically provides this parameter to the handler. Just use it.

If you add more container elements you'll need to register their handlers.
If you register the same handler for multiple Items you'll still get an Item reference
as a parameter. It then becomes your responsibility to figure out which item caused the event.

There are many ways to do it. Personally, I use XPath in cases like yours. It's IMO the most
portable method, easiest one to handle for replicant Containers etc... For example[php]function changeLocation(countryItem) {

// Take Item, find Sibling
var cityItem = IWDatacapture.getItem(countryItem.getName() + "/../city");
. . .
}[/php]
