How to remove formatting when pasting into TinyMCE

Currently when pasting text from Word or another type file format using the "Paste" icon, user needs to "Remove formatting" in order to make the page compliant.

And:

If user key Ctrl+V, that will do an automatic clean-up of the code same as "Paste as plain text".

First off, nobody on these forums is getting paid to help out, so you may have to wait longer than 3hrs for someone to respond.

Second, your post has received about a dozen views so far and the fact that nobody has responded to what should be a fairly straightforward question implies that people don't actually know what you're asking (perhaps due to the lack of an actual question).

I didn't think so, but sure.

Now, attempting to answer what I think may have been your intended question... Pasting from MSWord captures a whole lot of garbage HTML generated by Word. If you want to remove *all* formatting, you should be using a regular textarea instead of TinyMCE. If you want to clean up just the MSWord ****, use the "paste from Word" button and it'll clean *most* of it. If that's still unacceptable, I've found that asking users to paste into Wordpad (as RTF) and then copy+pasting from that tends to help (read: training issue). Ultimately the problem is an MSWord one, not a TeamSite or TinyMCE one. Ideally, you'd revise your process such that the content is authored directly in TeamSite, rather than living as a Word document prior to entry into the WCM.

And no, there is no supported way to capture the CTRL-V and make it automatically call the cleanup routine.

An additional aside - the better formatted the Word document is - the less cleanup will be needed and the smaller the overall size of the pasted content will be.

If you write your entire Word doc in "Normal" style and keep applying attributes (indents, bullets, etc) to the various paragraphs in your document - you are bloating the back-end code for that document.

Conversely, if you properly define and use Paragraph Styles in word - the same content may take up a considerably smaller amount of space in terms of back-end code.

I ran into this at a previous customer site where they had this large Word document - actually two: 1 in English, 1 in Spanish - and they were trying to paste it into a VFE textarea in different DCRs - both failed to be able to be saved.

I re-stylized their documents properly, copy/pasted them into the VFE textarea and then had it do a further "cleaning" - and both were able to be saved.

Word is a reasonably decent tool if used correctly - the problem is that most people don't.
