Alert message using a Perl script

We are handling an event using a Perl script. Now, we would want to alert the user with some message everytime this event happens. (unlock event). Is there any way that from our event handler Perl script, we can do this?

Off the top of my head - unlikely - since the event handler has no notion of whether or not the user is logged in, nor where (what client) they may be logged in.

If the event is tied into a workflow process - you might be able to ensure that a subsequent [CGI] task provides the desired alert, but that's speculative at best.

If the event is somehow tied into FormsPublisher or SitePublisher - you might have sufficient information to somehow communicate with the appropriate layer of the UI to provide an alert - but that's still rather speculative.

You can, however, identify the [previous] owner of the lock, and as part of your event trigger script send that user an email letting them know that the lock has been removed. It's not an "alert" per-se, but it is notification.
