XSL vs TPL

I worked with TeamSite several years ago, then left and used other CMS tool. When I am back to check current PT files today, I find they use XSL files to replace TPL files which were created by me. Is it true if Teamsites 7 can use XSL as file type of PT now? If so, what is the advantage comparing to TPL?

Yes, that is certainly true. The feature has been first introduce in 6.7 ( I think ).

In my personal opinion the biggest advantage of this stuff is an ability for non-Os system users
to generate Content, traditional PT won't allow that. The biggest disadvantage ( again, IMO )
is that if you need more than pure XSLT transforms you'd have to use Java which makes presentation
code multi-module and harder to modify and maintain.

Other than that it's just the matter of Client requirements, available expertise and personal
preferences.

Note also that XSLT/Java is the direction that Autonomy embraces and (to a degree) enforces
in newer releases etc..
