Accessing child nodes from a component presentation template

I'm trying to break down my presentation template into components. What is troubling me is how to access the child nodes of an dcr node passed into the component template.

The only way I can get it to work is to pass the dcr node to the component template in a list, and then iterate over the list in the component.

In the parent template I have something like...

[html]




...


[/html]


And then in the child template something like this:

[html]

[/html]

It works, but I am only passing one node, so why should I need to enclose it in a list? Surely there is a more elegant and efficient method.

I've searched through the templating help and examples, devnet and support.interwoven.com, but I haven't seen an example anywhere that could help me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going to use Perl-based PTs - my recommendation is just use Perl-based PTs and don't try to use the XML wrappers.
Instead, create modules with methods and use TeamSite::XMLnode (or similar) to access the elements within the DCR node structure -- i.e. your "included PTs" and make the main PT one big <iw_perl>...</iw_perl> block
