How to hide simple search button

Hi there,

We use TS 6.7.2 SP2, I received an request from client to remove the My Favorite, My Workarea and Simple Search button, see the screenshot.

Based on my knowledge, all the items that can be customized must be defined in the ui_filesys.xml, but I didn't see the defination.

Could you give a hint how to remove them?

Those are OOTB items - for which you would need to find the appropriate id and then use that id to explicitly remove them via the custom config files in IWHOME/local/config/lib/content_center/customer_src/etc/conf/customer/

Yes you can do so but first go through the customization guide and try to do some ground work in your dev. environment and then do let us know if you get struck.

Since this is perhaps one of the things that isn't documented in a language that we can understand, I'll try to send you in the right direction. Note that you have to be at least on 6.7, since roles were quite different before then.

Let's say you want to show button X only for editors.
Step 1: remove button X entirely with iwov-delete tags.
Step 2: add a custom "show button X" operation in userops_custom.xml
Step 3: add the button back in (using iwov-insert) with a different ID, use refID to refer to the original OOTB button, and add an operation-id attribute referencing your "show button X" operation.
Step 4: make_toolkit.ipl
Step 5: edit the editor role in the admin console. Under "custom operations", you should see your "show button X". Check that and save.

When I move my mouse over the simple search button, I find the link at bottom is /iw-cc/command/iw.search.ccpro.search. I can't find the id for iw.search.ccpro.search in the iw-home\local\config\lib\content_center\reference folder.

Any idea about it?

Thanks, santosh013. I did a search for iw.search.ccpro.search in iw-home, and four files contain it, they are commandgroups.xml, commands.xml, roles.xml and ui_ccpro.xml. All of them under the \iw-home\httpd\webapps\content_center\WEB-INF\conf\search.

The ui_ccpro.xml defines a link for iw.search.ccpro.search, which is:
_iw.ccpro.search_icon.link

I am not sure whether it is what we need, because I still not find the place that uses the link.

You have made the changes in httpd(deployment) folder.
I hope you should have done the changes in ui_custom.xml which is in iw-home\local\config\lib\content_center\customer_src\etc\conf\customer.
I hope if you run the build your work will be gone.

Yes, it is exactly what I did. I modify the ui_custom.xml to remove it, but I found it is defined in the ui_ccpro.xml.

I read the previous thread, and it gave a very good clue, it said the id can be found if I view source of the page, I found the id for the Simple Search, but I can't find the id for the My Favorites and My Workarea, the source code is in the attached document.

I think we can't hide these two icon, is it right? Or you have other way to customize it.

- I am not 100% sure but I do not think that you can remove "myFavorites" / "myWorkarea"
elements, not in a supported manner anyway. They belong to the "actionList" Widget that does not
seem to be exposed for customization. You can of course try to modify corresponding JSPs
directly but that's hacking, you are on your own.

- Also, you should pay attention to Santosh post. Your changes will almost certainly disappear
after any "make_toolkit" run. You should not modify httpd components directly. The right
way to do it is through mapped file(s) under "iw-home\local\config\lib..." directory, see customization
Guide for details.

To make it clear, I didn't touch the ui_ccpro.xml, I just found it defines the id of the simple search, and I modify the ui_custom.xml to remove it.

All right, it seems no way to customize my favorites and my workarea.

Where exactly (in what Folder) have you modified "ui_custom.xml"?
Once again, you are not supposed to modify assets under "/iwhome/httpd/" directly

There is a little misunderstanding. The ui_custom.xml I modified is under /iw-home/local/config/lib/content_center/customer_src/etc/conf/customer/ui_custom.xml

After run the make_toolkit, the simple search button disappears.

Its good that you were able to do what you wanted and you understood the concept that you need to change the xml file in /iw-home/local/config/lib/content_center/customer_src/etc/conf/customer location and when you will run the build your work will be visible in httpd(deployment) folder.

I agree with Boris that it doesn't seem feasible to customize the My Favorite and My Workarea but do update this thread if you find any workaround by any chance.

To be short and precise, tell your client that this is not feasible and this is what Boris suggested you that you are on your own if you try this.
But for just to see some samples you can go to iw-home\httpd\iw\samples location to view some of the sample JSPs.
