Hi,
We are migrating from solaris to windows. In the code, there is a permissionsetting for files chmod 0111 for the files that are generated dynamically. How can tht be acheived in windows OS. I have tried with perl chmod and cacls in windows, which havent worked for me. Any pointers would be grateful and helpful.

Which 'code' are you referring to? Are you migrating a Content Store? I don't think you can migrate a Content Store (with Editions, versions and metadata intact) between *nix and Windows. I'm wondering where you're getting your guidance from....?

Hi jwl,
we migrated content from solaris to windows through OD. we moved the code and made changes. I know that we cant migrate the store " as it is" from sol to windows. Anyways, that is not the point here. The code in solaris( ipl) has chmod 0111( that is OS command) and now i need to replicate the same in windows OS. IS there any command in windows or perl ( in perl , i have tried chmod PERL command and it dint worked)

NTFS has no concept of "executable" on a file. All files are considered to be executable. So 0111 is a meaningless permission set on windows. What is the intent for the files? I would think it would be more likely that some group or user would need READ access on them (which could be accomplished with cacls).

I agree with Rob here - 0111 equates to "--x--x--x" or "executable for everyone but nobody has read or write access" (which seems dubious - usually it's 755 or even 555 rather than 111)

On Windows - the issue is dealt with via ACLs and file associations (assoc and ftype values). My guess - you (buddha) could probably just remove the entire chmod call and you should be fine

I removed all the chmod commands and all the files have read, write permission and using windows ACL's should be useful, but none of the ACL's are providing the functionality in windows to do so.

Try providing a bit more detail about what you are trying to do and how you are trying to do it - saying "none of the ACLs are providing the functionality" means absolutely nothing with knowing what ACLs you are talking about, how you are applying them, where the files are that these are being applied to, etc.

I have used the CLT $iwhome\bin\iwaccess set-windows-inheritance which worked as the same as 0111 in solaris
