Importing Images to MediaBin

Windows 2003
ORACLE 10

I have a large number (50,000) of image assets (JPG) I need to import to MediaBin server from a legacy DAM server.

I would ideally like to add them all through "Index External" from a UNC path. Each image also has additional metadata to be added in an XML file.

Would anyone recommend using Index Eternal option to add these images through the MediaBin Client Application? How does it perform with large number of assets?

If so, is it possible to write a Task using XML decoder to import the additional metadata from the accompanying XML files?

The best approach -

Use ‘hot folder’ and drag and drop the images ,so the assets will be inside the repository
Write a VB script to set the metadata for each assets , which is stored in an xml or excel file
