Tabs question and existing DCRs.

I am about to begin using tabs. I will be switching from iwov to xml as my dcr type in order to do this. Here are my questions.

If I add tabs and switch from iwov to xml in my templating.cfg will my users be able to edit existing dcrs that used the iwov style without tabs (testing so far tells me that it's not going to work)?

If the above is true, what can I do so that users can edit existing DCRs that were created prior to the tabs changes in my datacapture.cfg?

I think that you will have to transform existing IWOV DCRs so that they conform to your custom XML schema.
Afaik, there is no OTB tool to make that happen or even to help with the task. In every particular case it all
depends on the "IWOV DTD - your schema DTD" mapping details. It can be trivial or fairly complex.

If I were you I would use old/new dcts to populate few semantically identical IWOV/XML DCR pairs and use them
to identify mapping, code and debug transformation scripts.

That's exactly what I mean.

Note that this is not only "Tab Structure", that's secondary. The whole DCR's DTD usually differs for
XML format. The only alternative I can think of is to re-create XML DCRs manually with the new DCT.
Sure enough, that may be practical only for a small set of DCRs.
