Sounds like a straight foward enough question, but I think I'd want to know a few more details before I provided some comment...

My assumptions:
you are talking about a SitePublisher based site
you aren't using a database or LSCS data model
your current naming convention is deployed to an LSDS runtime instance

Could you confirm.

Is this a production website?
What is your motive for renaming?
And do you want to rename the folder structure, or the name of the site, or the web address it's referenced by?

And on a general note, it's sometimes useful to know the version and platform of the enviroment.

Are you talking about a FormsPublisher category or data-type? Or a SitePublisher site?

It sounds like the former.
If you want to rename a category or data-type you can select the folder in question and then do a File > Rename (it might be under the Edit menu, but I'm pretty sure it's under the File menu - not looking at a TS server right now).

That's the first - and simple - part.

The second part is that you will need to fix the TeamSite Extended Attribute (EA) on all pre-existing DCRs to reflect the change in name of either the category or data-type. (see iwextattr command in CLT manual)

The third part is that you will need to fix the EA on all pre-existing generated output files from the DCRs to also reflect the change in name of either the category or data-type.
