Changing DCR structure

Hi All,

I merged 2 DCRs using the DCRnode in my script.

The question I have is that when the merge is complete, the format of the DCR changes like XML format. By that I mean something like:

[HTML]

[/HTML]

but the DCR before merge existed in format

[HTML]

[/HTML]

because of this when I do the diff, the diff does not come out right.

Does any one know any method that can fix that?

It just looks like you're writing out to a new file and you're not getting the spacing. Throw us some of your code to chew on. Then maybe some discussion will occur.

Well.. I can't put all my merge script logic but here is part of it.

[HTML]
my $rootnode = TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRnode->new(xml,'document');
where xml is dcr read line by line.

some merge logic to add/remove nodes to the rootnode.

my $tmp_str = $rootnode->get_dcr();
This is I believe causing the issue.

open FILE, ">$dcr_path";
print FILE $tmp_str;
close(FILE);
[/HTML]

Try using a substitution regular expression.

Search the intertubes for xmlpp (pretty print). It'll transform your XML back into the spaced format you're looking for, and you can then do the diff on that.

iw.cfg option will not work in my case as I am doing a custom merge of 2 DCRs using perl.

Not sure about the substitution option as well.

xmlpp -> may be an option if the module comes preinstalled on Solaris 8 or with TeamSite.

I was hoping to get an answer related to how the DCRs are saved. I am sure TeamSite is also using some kind of module that structures the XML in the way they want. so If I can know what that module is then may be I can reuse it somehow. Smiley Happy

For comparison you can adjust any Format, either merged to original or original to merged - or even
both to some unified Form.

In your first Post you've indicated that you do have original DCR(s) to compare the merged one to.
So, with the iw.cfg setting you may try to "feign" the original DCR modification and save it (eg, try to
reformat original to *Pretty Print* merged).

I'm not saying it will work without any code changes, just that it may be one possible approach to look into.

There are XML formatting modules out there, but I don't believe the good/recent ones are in the OOTB TS install. You might want to look at this PERL script and modifying it for your purposes:

Try looking at something like TeamSite::XMLnode - e.g.: (not tested)

Clearly there's a lot more code to be written, and even that which I posted could probably be written better (I'm just doing this off the top of my head) - but by utilizing TeamSite::XMLnode's get_xml() method you should be able to get two (temporary) files that are in the same format and thus be able to perform a better diff.
