Write one inline script which will get the values of particular DCR by parsing it,
and populate them in the DCT calling the inline script in DCT.

You should elaborate your question in order to get better and clear answers. Do you want to just load an item when a form loads? or, do you want it to change depending on what value is selected in the form for other item(s)?

Please mention your TeamSite version and Operating System details as well.

A DCR file is basically an XML file. You can parse the dcr file and read all the values you want to show and format it the way you want to show onForminit.

Using form API you can easily achieve the above task.

On any event, fire an callserver command to an external ipl placed under httpd/iw-bin/,in the same ipl file write a code to parse xml (DCR) using available modules such as "use XML::LibXML" .

After successful parsing of the DCR, collect these values in array and send call back to the Form api and then populate the required dropdown.

vaibhav2288 proposed to use "inline" at the very first reply in this thread.

This is by far the simplest and most reliable way to satisfy the request. Solution
requires single (and simple!) module. It can be done in either perl or java, reference
is local to the DCT that uses it, no other configurational changes needed. It will work
in both Edit and View modes. Same module may be used in DCTs of different types.

Alternative FormAPI proposal will require at minimum two modules, FormAPI JS and external
scripting. Processing *may* require synchronization of independent Browser/Server threads,
Error and potential timeout handling, etc... It will not work in "View" mode. Porting
to different types will require some additional coding.

Finally, a proposal to use DataSource for something that trivial is simply absurd.
Although no doubt possible, it will require multiple configurational changes in several Files.
DataSource interface overhead would require quite literally 3-5 times more code than inline,
Application recompile and so on.

Yup, using an inline command would be the most simple and easiest to handle, i thought you need some more modifications while displaying, then only use form api as in that case you need to handle edit case as well.
