making changes in all DCRs

If I want to make a change in all the DCRs of a particular data-type, can I write a script which can run on server, go in the file system directory where data folder for a particular DCR is and make changes in there using regex ?

I mean to ask is can I make changes in DCRs through file system for a workarea or do I have to go through TeamSite GUI only ? For Staging, I can not go through file system to make changes. I have to update workarea and submit the changes to make any changes in staging. Does it work sameway for workarea ? Do I need to go through TeamSite GUI only or can I go through file system also ?

You can certainly do it through the File System. Rules are the same though, Staging and Editions
are read-only Areas. You'd have to perform your modifications in the Workarea and then submit if needed

You can do it either way, if there is whole huge number of files, of course script is handy at all time. make sure that you script doesn't rip off you extended attributes while making modifications to your DCR. If it does, DCR is no longer a DCR.
