Usage of document.getElementById in datacapture.cfg

Thanks in advance, Kindly help me to resolve an issue where i need to get the value of an item with an id in dct where my implementation is as follows:

Where i called the above item in dct using onItemChange

var myTextField = document.getElementById('count');
alert("After" + myTextField.value);
but the alert throughs "null" instead of the content, Please help me to resolve the issue.
