Thanks in advance, Kindly help me to resolve an issue where i need to get the value of an item with an id in dct where my implementation is as follows:
//<..item name="promo_description" pathid="promo_description" label="Promo Description" id='count'>
//<..textarea required="t" maxlength="256" />
//<../item>

Where i called the above item in dct using onItemChange
var myTextField = document.getElementById('count');
alert("After" + myTextField.value); but the alert throughs "null" instead of the content, Please help me to resolve the issue.

There is no "ID" attribute in Data capture template DTD. Your personal id attribute gets
discarded by the Forms Publisher upon DC Form rendition.

What is the problem you are trying to solve? Remember, each "item" Tag evaluates into the
whole collection of html/js entities. Some of them have internal system-generated IDs, others
don't. You can not control these IDs but in some cases your code can find out what they are.

Your approach above leads me to believe that you haven't heard of FormAPI, the *supported* way of resolving form items. There's a whole PDF on the topic.

i know how to get the value of item using formAPI my task was different so trying otherway.

My main task is that i am having textarea in DCT where its text can contain HTMl tags in textarea and that text should not have more than 256characters excluding Html tags from that text in textarea.
I am trying to do that by call javascript function and then use innerHtml but its not working. Is there any other method for doing that.
pls help me in solving that with any idea..
