teamsite 7.1 installation was unsuccessful -no logs

teamsite installation failed:
1. windows 2003, virtual image
2. it goes thru the entire process then spits out a message on the final screen " Installation was unsuccessful". --no log files were generated....

any clues... trying to install teamsite and core dependecies

A log file should have been generated in <iw-home>\iwinstall\logs\install.log

no log was generated --- the only folder under iwinstall is called "private"

That's... interesting.

The only thing I can think of then is that you're not running the installer as the local Administrator? Or perhaps you're attempting to install to a directory which can't be created due to perms or disk space?

The installer usually also outputs stdout and stderr to temp files in C:\tmp. This will tell you where it unpacked the iwpkg files, usually in something like C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\something\iwinstall-temproot. You could look there for more diagnostics info.

Perhaps try installing just the 4 core services first?
