Problem extracting extended attributes!

Dear All,

I have a script which extracts all the file extended attributes under a directory and sub directories. The script works fine with the directories having name without spaces,but creates problem with the directories with spaces.

It gives error:
ERROR:00920: Error locating //WEBKLM123/migr/main/supplier/WORKAREA/infomaster/templatedata/content-nc/Advanced

The actual folder is
//WEBKLM123/migr/main/supplier/WORKAREA/infomaster/templatedata/content-nc/Advanced content page/data

Please find the sample script in attachement.

Please suggest me for the isuue...

Two things - first try changing:

...
      my $cmd = "iwextattr -l $file";
      my $output =`$cmd`;
   ...

to:

...
      my $cmd = qq($iwhome/bin/iwextattr -l "$file");
      my $output = qx($cmd);
   ...

The first change is the most important as it (a) puts quotes around the file argument which will hold together pieces with spaces in them (which are "evil" and should never be allowed, but that's another story), and (b) properly [assuming you have

$iwhome

defined) provides the full path to the executable being run. The second fix is cosmetic / aesthetic but tends to increase readability of the code.

The second thing you might consider changing is:

...
      my $cmd = qq($iwhome/bin/iwextattr -l "$file");
      my $output = qx($cmd);
   ...

to:

...
      my $cmd = qq($iwhome/bin/iwextattr -l -x "$file");
      my $output = qx($cmd);
   ...

By adding the '

-x

' flag, you get the output in XML format - which means that you don't have to worry about spaces or newlines (or equal-signs [

=

] in the EA values. when you go to read these values back (e.g.: to set them on files)

If you're trying to transfer EAs from one file to another in the same session - try:

...
my $cmd = qq($iwhome/bin/iwextattr -l -x "$file1" | $iwhome/bin/iwextattr -s -x "$file2");
...
