Java for callout instead of CGI

Please let me know if it is possible to invoke java program for callout from a DCT instead of CGI/perl. And is this feature supported OOTB?

ok, so per documentation we can use callserver form api to invoke this.
Will we also have all the parameters like area_path, iw_dcr_path etc posted along as name-value pair, like the ones that are posted when using CGI callout from DCT?

Yes, writing a java-cgi is no different from writing a perl-cgi, except that you use a different editor :-). The parameters will be there.

You don't have to use a different editor (though it's probably recommended that you use an IDE for java) - but you do have to configure things and compile the java code and while you're debugging the process you will be restarting the UI services on the TS server each time disrupting the work of anyone else using the same server. Java may be more "elegant" (for some definition) - but perl allows for much more rapid development with less disruption to others in a TeamSite environment.
