Preserve white space in generated HTML

I need to preserve the formatting of the HTML generated by component XSLT. Is it possible to turn off the HTML compression that happens? I have tried but it has no effect.

TS 6.7.2 LS 3.1 on Linux

Have you tried using nbsp HTML token? (with combination of xsl:text)?
