Tag DCRs with a Date Field

Hi,

I am using TS 7.2.1 on Windows 2003.

I need to allow all DCRs to be tagged with a date, that tells when the file was last checked. I cannot get the date from any field in the DCR, as I need to implement a calendar callout here. Any pointers on how this can be achieved?

I cannot use perl too, or I would have called a calendar ipl here. I tried calling a calendar jsp, but it's not returning the date value to the tag field. I've used that in a DCT before, and it worked, but not in this case.

Try using a dialog button.

Replace function="jsFunctionName" with a call to your own function that opens a new window with your calendar.

Getting that new opened window will take a little work trying to figure out how to call back the original window. If you look at the guts of z_calendar.ipl you will see how the callback is made. You just have to supply the form name yourself (or user javascript to get it) unlike the ipl file which gets it from the calling window using perl.

Do you want to do this programmatically (using the last modified timestamp) or interactively using a callout? (or both, the former for all pre-existing content and the latter for all new content?)

You say you "cannot use perl" - why? Is it because you do not have the skills or because there is a requirement that stipulates this restriction?

Without seeing the code you are trying to use it is difficult to suggest ways to improve or fix it to do what you want. Without knowing the real (and/or mandated) restrictions on the manner in which this is to be coded it is also difficult to ensure that responses are aligned with such restrictions.

Also, I've been told to use the same calendar as the one used in the workflow tab. So I tried calling the same jsp here, but the problem is that when I select a date, the popup closes but the date tag doesn't get populated.

The workflow tab is a product piece not a DCT - so chances of being able to use the exact same calendar code is dubious since it may contain hard-wired assumptions about its context.

There are many javascript-based calendar interfaces out there that you could use - whether or not they employ Perl or some other coding language probably depends on which one you select to use - but they often come with directions on how to tie them in to a specific field on the assumption that you have control over the HTML code used to render the field (i.e. being able to set an explicit 'id' value with the field) which is often not the case when dealing with DCTs (unfortunately).

The approach usually taken is to use a callout to initiate a CGI (in whatever language you like) that incorporates the calendar object and then utilizes FormAPI code to take the resultant value and stuff it back into the DCT.
