Trouble getting started with Optimost

We are running TS 7.0 and OD 7.0 on our IW server. We installed the Optimost license key. So our server seems to be able to connect to the Optimost Server now. We also enabled Optimization in a (SitePublisher [SP]) site. But then we were unabled to edit a SP page in it.

I attempted to create a Multivariable Test but ran into a problem similar to the earlier problem. Please see the details below.

What else do we need to configure? Note that we are not using LiveSite at all. We generate ASPX pages as part of our custom publication workflow.

Incidentally, the SitePublisher 7.1 User's Guide says that we need to run "role_install.bat" before we can set Optimization Role Permissions. However, that script indicates that it is supposed to be run as part of the LiveSite installation process.
