I have an empty select item that I'm trying to populate using callserver.

This is what I have in my formAPI

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/Files/Content/names", "onItemChange", retrievenames);

I have an alert in my retrievenames function that doesnt get kicked off. When I change my item and introduce one option for example

< option label="test" value="test"/ >

it works. But the problem is I want to prepopulate the dropdown list. Is there another even I can kick off for example onclick. Or is there another approach to this?

I'm not following. Do you want the form to open with all the values already in the drop down, or do you want the values to populate the dropdown after clicking on the dropdown? Or are they supposed to change based on something else?

Yes I need all the values to be populated already in the drop down.

Use an inline command that calls an ipl file. There is an example of how to do this in here

iwhome\examples\Templating\config\example_server_side_inline_callout.ipl

and here

iwhome\examples\Templating\templatedata\internet\yacht\datacapture.cfg

If you want to get the data from some other source other than a txt file you can make your own calls in your custom ipl file.

we are using a jsp that pulls the content. ipl is not an option. Any ideas?

instead of calling onitemchange

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/Files/Content/names", "onItemChange", retrievenames);

I'm passing the item to my function in initi() which prepopulates the values.

retrievenames(IWDatacapture.getItem("/Files/Content/names"));
