dnr scrit on target side

FOllowing is a code fragment from OD manual.
deloyNRun feature is configured on base server into this xml file from which deloyment takes place. If a script is on source server, then it cab be run by this configuration file.

[/php]If a script is on target server, then how can it be triggerred from source server ? If I want to get something from server, I need to make an http rerquest. Thats what we have to do, when using callServer() API or another callout. In this case, we are providing <script cmd="C:\bin\email_admin.bat -user="rroe@mycompany.com" where="C:\temp" async="no" />
which will execute script on source server only. How can a script be executed on target server without making http call ?

I have news for you. There are hundreds of public and proprietary protocols other than HTTP.

OD Receiver does all the actual job on target Server. OD Base communicates with OD Receiver on
proprietary OD Application (7-th layer by OSI Model) protocol which in turn is based on public
TCP Transport Protocol (4-th Layer).

You can specify which target side Deploy and Run scripts can be run on a specific target OD server by configuring the allowedDnrs element in the targets' base server (by default odbase.xml) or receiver (by default odrcvr.xml) configuration file. The allowedDnr resides within dnrProperties element.

In this statement, on one hand it says "this feature is only applicable to the base server" on tthe other hand beloe it says, "Deploy and Run scripts can be run on a specific target OD server by configuring the allowedDnrs element in the targets' base server (by default odbase.xml) or receiver (by default odrcvr.xml) configuration file"
So what is true, can dnr scripts be configured on odrcvr.xml or not ?

Yes, you can trigger DNR script on either source or target Locations.

Optional dnrProperties/allowedDnrs Tags allow to restrict target-side
DNR scripts to desired regex collection, whether this Target is Base or
Receiver. Without these Tags any DNR Script invocation is allowed.

Check in rcvr logs for deployment instance
Macro and micro logs of it and you may come to a clue, where you can resolve yourself or post the issue

DNR itself says deploy n run , hence we can invoke any script,file can modify the deployment before actually copying the files.

They are normally used to clear the cache before deploying etc.
Post your requirement clearly then we may be able to help you.

Although DNR can be used to execute some Application Servers' Target "Clear cache" Procedures, it is
only one of innumerable use cases. Btw, it is "normal" as an opposite to what, some "abnormal" usage?
