Second server licence for TS5.0 --> 5.5
crusader
If you only have 1 TS licence and you need to upgrade from TS5.0 --> 5.5, do you really need to purchase another TS licence just to do the data conversion (which requires 2 servers) even if you have no intention of using a 2nd TS installation? Rather unethical if so. Has anyone been down this path?

You do *not* need to purchase an additional server license to do the data conversion.

Just to be clear:
1) You do NOT need to buy a second TS license to upgrade from TS5.0 -- > 5.5, which is what you said, right.
2) But you DO need to download a second license key for the target server (in our case another Solaris) for the TS5.5 data conversion, is that correct?
Hope I have that right, it's a little confusing for us new boyz. Appreciate this clarification, to be sure we are doing the proper, legal thing. Thanks.

You are correct. You do NOT need to buy an additional license for the temporary conversion server, but you will need to download an additional license key.

Just realized that I left out one very important point in my previous response to this post. In order to install the second instance of TeamSite on the second machine, for the backing store conversion, you need to contact your local sales rep to obtain a *temporary* license key. This will enable you to run TeamSite on the secondary server for 30 days (plenty of time to do the conversion). You should not download a permanent license key for the temporary server. Otherwise you will be in violation of your license agreement.
