Generating page time threshold?

I've got a situation where from time to time a page will not fully generate.

The page is made up of a top include, body and footer include (using master page).

The top include loads till the bottom of the tpl but it fails to load the footer portion.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of time page generation time threshold that can be set somewhere since the page does not seem to get enough time to load before generating?

ts 6.7.2 win

How long does it take to render the page when everything works?
How big is the page?
Are you using Perl-based (.tpl) PT's or XSLTs?
