Reading image height and width in PERL without using any perl modules

hi,

I need to read the "Summary Tab" properties-(height and width) of an Image file.
I dont want to use any PERL modules like image:size, magick etc.
can it be done without the modules?

If you want to re-invent the wheel - probably, but if you're using Perl why do you want to handcuff yourself by not making use of existing modules that already do what you want?

the requirement is not to use any built in modules and just read the properties of the file if i can.

Whoever filed this requirement needs his head examined pronto!

Of course you can get detailed format specs from (for example) jpeg.org, read your file as binary stream
and start parsing. Waste of time IMO but if your Client is paying...

LOL: well I would copy-and-paste the code of the relevant Image-module, take 2 weeks of beach-holiday, and after that pretent that you wrote the code yourself. :-) (Oh, you would break the os-license)

It wouldn't be the OS license they were breaking - it would be copyright law and ethical standards.
