Issue with special characters in VFE

If i enter Special characters in VFE ,these characters are appearing like square box in generated HTMLs.

Ex:
If i enter São in VFE but end up with S�o in the generated HTML.

Did you check the encoding?

It should be set to UTF-8 for displaying the special characters.

Thanks for your useful suggestions, Issue got resolved .. including below mentioned encoding std in my XSLT.

accept-charset=UTF-8,ISO-8859-1"
