Not sure if this was posted. I couldn't find it here, but here goes:

When upgrading/installing OD 7.1 I ran into an issue during extraction of the ODNG tar file. It simply stopped halfway, and didn't even clean itself up after failure, leaving new files with old. Nice.

The cause was due to an OS bug in Solaris 9, where "tar xvf" is having a problem extracting tar files that have very long filenames in them. The workaround is to add "i" (to ignore the checksum error checking). The startodinstall file was modified to this, and the install completed.
