problem retrieving IWItem object..

I am trying to obtain IWItem object(article/box/test) using the following code.It works if I change the value of the 'max' attribute to 1 but does not work with when the value is 'unbounded'.
I tried with 'max=2' but still got the return value as 'null'.

I am not able to figure out the problem.Can anyone please suggest.
