How to improve DCT Performance

Hi,

TS 7.3.1 on Solaris

XSLT based Presentation

I have a DCT, which has 5 levels of containers and a huge data to be entered. The DCR is taking 15 mins to load on a normal machine. I tried using pagination with DCT, however couldn't find much help because of TinyMCE content, Finally, I tried breaking the single DCT into multilple DCTs and could able to work with the Save and Generate the single outfile by merging the DCRs.

Since the content authors has to create sub DCRs and map them into one master DCR to generate the single output file,

this approach is not much appreciated.

So is there any better way to have the performace issue resolved and also the content authoring is made easy?

No matter how you do it, having dozens of tinymce instances on a single web page is always going to be incredibly slow. Combine that with 5 levels of containers and you're just asking for pain. Frankly I don't know how your users don't complain about having to work with 5 levels in the first place.

The first thing to do is re-evaluate your information architecture. Maybe you've over-complicated it and you don't need all this information collected together. Otherwise, splitting up the information into multiple DCRs/DCTs is the correct answer. If that's too annoying for your users, you have two options:

Option 1 - Use automation in workflow or elsewhere to automate the linkage somehow. Maybe you'd need to ask users for additional info, like selecting the parent from a picklist in the child DCR, but there's usually a way.
Option 2 - Improve the UI. For example, in the parent DCR, you could build CGI callout buttons to allow users to browse/create children records and then launch them in a separate edit window right from the parent. Or build a custom screen that organizes the information to suit your needs, instead of depending on the one-dimensional view of the file browser.
